Affordable time tracking, but VeriClock’s clunky interface and limited features hold it back for growing teams.
Verdict 6.4/10
VeriClock is a time tracking and scheduling solution that offers a range of tools and features, such as a 1-click timer, manual time entries, geolocation monitoring, attendance tracking, shift scheduling, and more.
With all the essential features and an affordable price point, I think VeriClock can be a good solution for small businesses and startups.
That said, its usability and interface aren’t the best, and it has just 2 integrations. Also, it lacks features for internal communications, project management, and more—making it less ideal for businesses looking for an all-in-one work management solution.
Key Features:
- Scheduling. See your team’s schedule in a daily, weekly, or monthly calendar format and filter to view shifts by team members or job codes.
- Time tracking. Let employees clock in and out to their jobs through a timer or manual entries.
- Verification tools. Mandate photo verification and signatures, and track GPS locations and set geofences to prevent time theft—including buddy punching.
- PTO. Create custom leave types and manage employees’ paid time off (PTO) requests.
- Jobs and service codes. Create and manage jobs, projects, and service codes—each with its own team members and budgets.
- Employees. Add and manage employees, including their personal details, wages and overtime rates, permissions, groups, and more.
- Reporting. View and export employee timesheets, job costs, and payroll reports in different formats or integrate them with payroll and accounting software.
- Integrations. Sync timesheets and job cost reports with accounting and payroll solutions like QuickBooks or Sage 50.
Pros ✅ • Good verification tools • Affordable pricing • Mobile apps | Cons ❌ • Clunky and confusing interface • Only 2 integrations • Limited work management features |
VeriClock Pricing
Unlike solutions like Homebase—which offers multiple pricing plans—VeriClock has just a single, universal pricing plan for all its clients.
VeriClock plan |
$10/month fixed account fee + $5/user/month |
• iOS & Android apps • Time tracking • GPS tracking and geofencing • Overtime rules and calculations • PTO • Customizable job and service codes • Exportable reports Integrations with Sage 50 or QuickBooks • Employee onboarding assistance • Customer support by chat/phone/email |
You pay a fixed account fee of $10/month and $5/month for every user on your team, including employees, managers, or admins. This covers all key features and integrations.
While this straightforward pricing initially impressed me, I quickly learned that some features are available only as add-ons, which are priced separately.
For instance, want to opt for time tracking via phone call or text message clock-ins and clock-outs? It’s an additional $3/user/month, which I find costly.
VeriClock’s pricing page also mentions a few more add-ons, such as text/SMS alerts and photo or video attachments—but doesn’t specify the prices for these.
Overall, while VeriClock is relatively affordable, prices can quickly stack up as your team grows. Here’s how VeriClock’s cost compares with similar solutions.

On the one hand, I’m pleased VeriClock offers a free 30-day trial—plenty of time to explore the platform. On the flip side, there’s no free plan like I’ve seen with apps like Connecteam.
Verdict: 7/10
VeriClock Usability and Interface
Signing up for VeriClock’s web platform was straightforward. I provided my company name and contact details and was redirected straight to my VeriClock web portal.
The web interface has a simple white and orange color theme and large font size, but I feel the design is dated and largely utilitarian. I prefer a more modern look and feel.
Overall, I could easily navigate VeriClock’s features. All the essentials—like time, scheduling, jobs, employees, reports, settings, and integrations—are listed neatly in the top bar. This is also where you find the help icon and your notifications. There’s no left or right sidebar, making it simpler to find things.
However, I didn’t like the design of the Time feature, which opens straight into an activity log accompanied by a complex legend. This felt overwhelming and non-intuitive. I’d expected the Time tool to open into a time clock.
I also found individual features challenging to use. And a few settings weren’t where I’d expect them to be. For instance, you must change overtime multipliers and set the workweek (e.g., Monday to Sunday) from payroll rather than the overtime and scheduling features. Similarly, setting up PTO rules was complex and time-consuming.

Finally, I wish VeriClock had some of the customization and accessibility features I saw in Asana—for instance, screen readers, voice-over support, or dark-mode options for those with visual, motor, or other impairments.
Verdict: 4.5/10
Mobile app
I tested VeriClock’s iOS mobile app, which had the same white and orange color theme as the web portal and all the features listed within a menu bar. That said, the interface didn’t seem optimized for mobile. For instance, the user’s name overlapped with the time on my iPhone.

Here’s how the mobile app compares with the web portal.

*Only when permitted by administrators
The mobile app lets standard users clock in and out, add photos and location tags to time entries, see their schedules, and view notifications. This offers pretty much the same functionality as the web portal—except for manual time tracking.
Admins are far more limited in their use of the mobile app. They have the same functionality as standard users, except for account management and groups. This isn’t great for businesses that operate on the move and have less desktop or laptop access.
I noticed some discrepancies between some features across the web and mobile apps, too. For example, there’s no time “Activity” feature on the web portal, but there’s a feature called “Events,” which shows a user’s time entries. This confused me since I expected to see event management features—something competitors like Connecteam offer.
Another confusing aspect of the app? Users can see their schedules by default on the mobile app, but these don’t show on their web portals unless explicitly permitted by an admin. This made no sense to me, so I think it could be a glitch.
Despite these shortcomings, I was impressed that, similar to Hubstaff, VeriClock supports offline time tracking. Although this must be turned on manually by admins, it’s a feature many other competitors, like Buddy Punch, don’t have.
Verdict: 5.5/10
VeriClock Core Functionalities
Shift scheduling
VeriClock’s scheduling feature opens into a calendar view of your entire team’s assigned shifts and PTO. You can filter the schedule by employee, job, or service codes and view the calendar as daily, weekly, or monthly.
While I was happy with the daily and monthly view, the weekly view runs from Sunday to Saturday—not ideal for businesses with Monday-Sunday payroll and operational cycles. Eventually, I figured out how to change this from the payroll settings feature, which wasn’t intuitive.

Creating and assigning shifts was straightforward. In addition to setting dates and hours, labeling shifts, and allocating them to employees, you can attach shifts to specific jobs and services, choose a color, and even choose if shifts should repeat.
Once the schedule is published, you can duplicate shifts and even create templates for future use. This way, you don’t have to build schedules from scratch every time. I think this is a great solution for businesses with consistent schedules. I was also impressed at the cautionary message I received when I assigned a shift to an employee who had PTO booked during a shift.

However, certain aspects of the scheduling feature were disappointing. When I assigned a shift to an employee, they weren’t automatically notified by email or the mobile app. Admins must actively create alerts for shift reminders, which I find strange.
Additionally, standard users can’t see their schedules on the web portal. You can enable permissions for users to see their entire team’s schedule—but not limit visibility to their own schedule. So, the only way for an employee to see their assigned shifts outside the team-wide view is for them to open the schedule feature on the mobile app. I think this is inefficient and could easily lead to missed shifts.
Verdict: 6.5/10
Time tracking
VeriClock’s time-tracking solution is comprehensive and contains all the essential features. But it’s also confusing in some places.
Let’s start with the positives. Users can clock in and out of their shifts with a single click from their web or smartphone apps. Each time entry is linked to a job code or service, making it easy to see how employees are spending their time and calculate their hours and wages for different jobs.
You can also mandate photo verifications at clock-in, clock-out, or both for the mobile app. Moreover, you can require managers or third-party partners like clients to sign off on timesheets before they’re used for payroll or any other purpose and automate the signature collection process. I like these verification tools more than the likes of RescueTime’s, which uses employee monitoring tools that I’m not a fan of.

Further, the activity log shows you every single time entry for your team and tells you which entries have been photo-verified, geo-tagged, signed, and more using a complex but thorough legend. Is this useful for generating timesheets? Yes. Could it be easier to understand? Definitely.
Also, admins can add manual time entries and edit users’ timecards easily from the web app. But, standard users can add manual time entries only if they’re given permission to edit timesheets.
This means you can’t let users add manual time entries without also giving them the right to edit timesheets. Ideally, these should be separate permissions, as seen in other apps—like Clockify.
Verdict: 7/10
Overtime and payroll customizations
VeriClock lets you set custom wages for different employees and create custom overtime rules. This means you can:
- Create a rule—for instance, “overtime 1.”
- Tag which employees it applies to.
- Set when it kicks in, including during specific dates or after a certain number of hours.
- Add a multiplier, like “1.5x of regular wages.”
You can create any number of rules, which makes it easier to customize overtime wages for different team members.
In theory, this seems straightforward. But, it was very complex to set up a new overtime rule. I had to visit 3 different places in the app to establish a new overtime rule.
First, you must head to the payroll tab and “add a new payroll item.” Then, head to “rules” (still in the payroll tab) and name a new rule to map to the payroll item.

Then, you must exit the payroll tab and go to “overtime settings” to actually set rules, such as when overtime kicks in. The process is unnecessarily convoluted. Ideally, you should be able to create a rule from a single location.
Verdict: 6/10
PTO management
VeriClock’s PTO management feature lets you create custom leave types, such as vacation days, sick leave, and more—depending on your preferences and local regulations. Employees can use their VeriClock app to request leave, and you can approve requests from your dashboard.
While the PTO offering is comprehensive and complete, setting it up was difficult. Once you create leave types, employees don’t automatically have access to requesting leave.
You must add a new leave type from one place on the web portal. Then, you must head to another tab to set balances and accrual rules and assign the leave type to employees or groups. Only then can workers request leave for that type.

I was disappointed VeriClock didn’t automatically create some standard leave-type templates—for instance, vacation or sick days—that you can edit if needed. A platform like Timetastic does this, saving you the time and hassle of building every PTO type from scratch.
Verdict: 6/10
Jobs, service codes, and employees
With VeriClock, every time entry and shift schedule is linked to a specific employee and can also be linked to jobs and services. This way, you can easily see how workers spend their time and how you spend your labor budgets across different job and service types.
You can see all your team members in one space—the employees tab. This is also where you can add new employees, set their wages, assign them to groups, manage permissions, and store their personal and tax information.
Creating a job on the web app was also straightforward. I named the job, added a job code, described it, assigned it to employees, allocated a budget, and inputted any third-party timesheet approvers for the job.
I also appreciated that I could choose to exempt the job from overtime or PTO if needed. You can create services in the same way. These are more granular tasks within jobs and are often used to label services offered to clients.

My only complaint? There’s no built-in invoicing tool like you get with apps like Toggl Track. While VeriClock makes it easy to track costs for jobs and services, you still must download reports and create invoices using external apps.
Verdict: 9/10
Integrations
VeriClock offers just 2 integrations—with payroll and accounting tools QuickBooks and Sage 50—and no API. Considering it has no project management or communication features, I was disappointed I couldn’t sync to platforms with these. Apps like Timely and Connecteam have much better ranges of integrations.

Verdict: 4/10
VeriClock Security Features
VeriClock’s website discusses its privacy policy but doesn’t mention its security features much. Here’s a summary of its data privacy measures.
- Informs customers that their data is used internally—plus by third parties—to improve the offering and customer service.
- Provides users with the right to access, correct, and delete their personal information.
- Encrypts sensitive data, such as clients’ credit card information, using SSL technology.
- Offers role-based permission settings so you can customize access for standard users and admins, ensuring data is limited to those who need it.
There’s no mention of other basic security features, such as end-to-end data encryption or GDPR-compliance. I reached out to a customer support agent and discovered that while VeriClock offers single sign-on (SSO), it doesn’t offer 2-factor authentication. They also confirmed that VeriClock isn’t compliant with HIPAA regulations.
Compare this with platforms like Connecteam—which implements strict security protocols and is GDPR and HIPAA-compliant.
Verdict: 3/10
VeriClock Reporting & Analytics
VeriClock boasts 4 reports on its platform.
- Payroll report displays each employee’s wages, overtime costs, and total costs for a pay period. You can sync these reports with QuickBooks or Sage 50 for payroll processing.
- Job costs report shows you the costs associated with each job or service type and how you’re tracking against budgets.
- Employee hours report lists every team member’s time data, including clock-in and clock-out hours, total hours worked, overtime hours, and more.
- Employee costs report lets you see your labor costs at a glance based on employees’ hours worked and wages.
Each report is highly customizable, can be scheduled for auto-download, and can be exported in CSV, PDF, or Excel. You can choose from the full range of data fields and create a custom report for your purpose. While this is impressive, I found it odd that the 4 reports mentioned above didn’t already have default fields linked to them, which is something I’ve seen with apps like Apploye.
For example, when I tried downloading a standard payroll report, it showed me a time report with no fields for wages. Without ready reports, you must always customize your reports, which is time-consuming.

Verdict: 8.5/10
VeriClock Customer Support
VeriClock offers customer support in the following ways.
Knowledge base | Anytime |
Live chat | 8am-5pm Pacific Time, Monday-Friday. |
Anytime | |
Phone | 8am-5pm Pacific Time, Monday-Friday. |
I was happy with the number of ways I could contact a VeriClock customer support agent. There’s even a phone option, which most apps—Harvest, for example—don’t currently offer.

That said, the customer support timings work largely for a US or Canada-based audience.
I sent a query via email, and a representative responded 2 hours after the company opened in Pacific time—not the fastest response time I’ve seen.
Verdict: 7.5/10

VeriClock App Review
VeriClock is a time and schedule management platform with features like time tracking, shift scheduling, and PTO management. While I thought VeriClock’s features were comprehensive, I found navigating the app difficult, and I struggled with the steep learning curve.
Overall, I think VeriClock’s relatively affordable price point and core features could make it a reasonable solution for small businesses and startups. But I’d recommend that larger businesses—or businesses wanting more features and a better user experience—explore platforms that offer more of an all-in-one solution.
Connecteam: The Better VeriClock Alternative
In my opinion, Connecteam is the best VeriClock alternative available today. It’s very user-friendly and offers tons of features. Let’s take a look.
GPS-enabled time clock and verification tools
Employees can clock in and out of Connecteam’s time clock with a single click from any device, including a shared kiosk, or manually input time entries. You can also track their live locations, set geofences, and set overtime rules, such as requiring approval.

Automated timesheets and payroll
Unlike VeriClock, Connecteam automatically generates timesheets for payroll that you can review, edit, and approve before syncing it with one of many popular payroll providers for timely and accurate payments.
Smart shift scheduling
Connecteam’s job scheduling tools let you assign shifts to workers manually or use the auto-scheduler to assign shifts based on employees’ preferences, location, qualifications, workload, and more. Team members can also pick from open shifts and swap shifts when needed—giving them a sense of ownership I didn’t find for VeriClock users.

Time off management and compliance
With Connecteam’s time off management, you can create custom leave types—such as personal days—and set days or hours off, carry-over and accrual policies, and more.
Also, you can choose and edit ready-made leave types like vacation and sick leave to avoid having to build every leave type from scratch.
Task management, communications, and much more for reasonable prices
Connecteam also offers employee task tracking, an in-app chat, a document center, and so much more. It’s truly an all-in-one work management platform and starts at just $29/month for up to 30 users, with a free plan for small teams.
