Customizable, payroll-boasting scheduler but lacks user-friendliness and effective customer support

Verdict: 7.6/10

Humanforce is a comprehensive multi-featured workforce management platform hailing from Australia. With it, you can auto-fill schedules, approve time off, auto-generate timesheets from clock-ins, and customize loads of back-end settings. Bundle this with the HR and payroll modules, and you’ve got a solid employee management and retention suite.

That said, features like reporting and user access are admin-heavy, and users have complained about login and schedule glitches on recent software versions. It’s also difficult to get support both before and during your subscription.

Some users have suggested you can get similar products for lower prices—and I suspect they’re right.

Key Features:

  • Scheduling: Recur and auto-fill shifts, and let employees reject, swap, and request shifts.
  • Time and attendance tracking: Let workers clock in with geofencing, view live attendance, and approve timesheets.
  • Leave management: Approve leave requests, track leave accruals and balances, and customize leave policies.
  • Real-time communication: Send 1-to-1 and group messages, post announcements, and send mass push notifications.
  • HR suite: Track employee engagement, set performance goals, and manage compensation.
  • Payroll: Schedule and automate payroll, and arrange back and out-of-cycle pay.

Pros

  • Built-in payroll and HRMS
  • Customizable features
  • Top security protocols
  • Pay for active users only

Cons

  • No free plan or trial
  • Poor customer service
  • Steep learning curve

Humanforce Pricing

To get your Humanforce custom quote, you must first arrange a short call with a rep, then attend a demo with some solution advisors. The process isn’t straightforward. For instance, my demo request was denied because the company works only with clients above the “150-headcount mark” (despite the demo form claiming 50—not 150).

While I can’t give you an estimate, I know this:

  • Humanforce bills per active user (i.e., someone who’s generated a timesheet in the past month), per month (which means your monthly bill can vary if your active user base varies).
  • You may get a per-user discount if you have a large headcount.
  • Each module is priced separately, so the more modules you add, the higher your per-user cost will be.

Here’s a high-level breakdown of Humanforce’s module features.

ModuleFeatures included

Since I didn’t get a quote, I can’t directly compare Humanforce’s pricing with other vendors. However, I noticed that several user reviews mentioned it was costlier than alternatives, especially for small businesses. Others said the higher price was worth it, but no reviews ranked Humanforce as less costly than competitors.

Note, also, that Humanforce doesn’t offer a free-forever plan or a free trial. Meanwhile, competitors, including Deputy, offer free trials, while others like Zoho Shifts provide free plans. Connecteam offers a free plan and a free premium trial, and its paid plans start at just $29/month for 30 users.

Humanforce Usability and Interface

Humanforce has recently updated its web app design. (Photo/Video ©Humanforce)

Because the vendor canceled my live demo and doesn’t offer free trials, I analyzed the platform’s usability using screenshots, videos, step-by-step guides, and user reviews. Overall, it’s a highly functional workforce management platform, but with a steep learning curve and some technical glitches

Firstly, the vendor revamped its web and mobile app interface in the last couple of years. It now looks colorful, modern, and uncluttered. So, there’s a chance the vendor may have also fixed some long-standing customer issues, including glitchy logins, slow loading, and inaccurate reports. I hope it did, because allowing bugs to flourish on a complex platform isn’t a good look.

From viewing recorded demos, I sense that features are easy to find on the platform. Tools and customization options are clearly labeled, and data (for instance, in schedules and analytics dashboards) updates in real time.

However, setting up features like user groups, payroll, and reporting takes a fair bit of admin. And the steps you must follow aren’t always intuitive. Hence, Humanforce isn’t ideal for non-techy HR admins and managers.

Mobile app

To review the Humanforce Work mobile app, I reviewed some help articles and screenshots. The new app, launched in 2025, looks well-designed, intuitive, and less glitchy than its predecessor, judging by its user reviews.

Employees get similar functionality on mobile and web. They can view schedules, accept or reject shift offers, swap and bid for shifts, track time, request leave, and update availability. They can also view their timesheets and payslips—a great feature.

Managers, meanwhile, can view team schedules and live attendance (including who’s clocked in and who’s late). You can easily approve timesheets and time off requests and replace employees on published shifts. You can’t, however, use the reporting feature, edit employee records, or view your team’s live GPS locations on the mobile app.

But you can post team-wide notice board announcements. Real-time chat isn’t available yet, but the company plans its release in the 4th quarter of 2025.

Humanforce Core Functionalities

Scheduling

Humanforce lets you schedule recurring and one-off shifts, save shift templates, and auto-fill schedules based on custom rules (including qualifications and availability).

When browsing the help center, I appreciated that there are loads of ways to customize your schedule view. For instance, you can view schedules by people and roles—and further group shifts by location, department, employment type, and more. You can even customize which shift details (e.g., duration, cost) appear in the calendar slots.

There’s also great flexibility in assigning shifts. You can manually select assignees or leave shifts open, and employees can bid on and swap shifts—making last-minute changes less prone to no-shows. Plus, I like that workers can accept or reject assigned shifts.

However, employees can see unpublished shifts by default unless you change access level settings, which I think could invite error and confusion. Also, it doesn’t seem you can add tasks, custom forms, or checklists to Humanforce shifts—which competitors, including Connecteam, do offer.

Finally, demand planning is Humanforce’s scheduling highlight. Nested under the scheduling feature, it tells you if shifts meet the forecasted demand. You upload a data set (say, upcoming restaurant bookings) and customize shift demand rules (for instance, 2 waiting staff per 20 customers). A traffic light system shows you if your shift meets, is under, or is above demand.

That said, Humanforce can’t draw demand data from third-party apps such as CRM or POS software for automated calculations. It can’t forecast your demand based on past attendance or demand inputs, either.

Verdict: 8.4/10

Time and attendance tracking

The Humanforce time clock lets you track overtime and breaks but lacks GPS breadcrumbs technology. (Photo/Video ©Humanforce)

I reviewed help articles, videos, and screenshots and found Humanforce’s time and attendance tracking fairly comprehensive. Employees can clock in via mobile, web, and kiosk.

On kiosks, you can also enable biometric login using facial recognition. There’s also a kiosk “vein scanner,” which works like a fingerprint scanner except it recognizes unique vein patterns inside your finger. I read the vein scanner instructions and think the device seems more fiddly than good old fingerprint-scanning technology.

Employees can clock in and out of scheduled and unscheduled shifts. Additionally, you can customize intervals for early and late clock-ins/clock-outs to allow employees to start shifts flexibly (but within limits). You can also set various admin alerts and overtime rules.

Worker-facing alerts are also customizable. For instance, you can automate clock-in reminders to employee groups using specific conditions (e.g., “Has not started work”) and frequencies (e.g., every 2 hours).

I like that workers can track breaks. To ensure they take breaks and you remain compliant (depending on local regulations), you can set break reminders or even enable “auto-breaks” (i.e., automatically tracked breaks, based on custom settings). This makes Humanforce superior to other time clock software that lack break tracking.

Plus, Humanforce generates timesheets automatically, which you can send straight to payroll via 3rd-party integrations or Humanforce’s inbuilt payroll. I like that you can set up timesheets for auto-approval if clock-ins and clock-outs are within a certain interval (e.g., 15 minutes) from the scheduled shift start/end times.

Finally, there’s GPS tracking and geofencing functionality. These allow you to track workers’ geolocations and, respectively, limit time tracking to specific site perimeters. However, GPS tracking records workers’ locations at clock-in and clock-out, not their locations throughout their clocked hours. This can limit businesses in logistics and transportation, plus those with lone workers.

Verdict: 8.5/10

Leave management

Humanforce’s leave management feature lets you view and approve time off requests from your team, plus customize leave policies. The platform auto-tracks leave accruals based on the work hours in your schedule and time tracker.

Here are some additional elements you can customize in your leave requests and approvals:

  • Add or remove leave types (e.g., sick day, personal leave).
  • Set a minimum notice period before a leave request’s start date (e.g., 3 days).
  • Use block-out periods to restrict leave fully (i.e., no leave) or partially (i.e., an upper limit for approved requests).
  • Add comments when approving or denying requests.

In addition, employees can set their availability for dates, days of the week, and times.

While this feature is super customizable, expect some serious admin—from granting line managers specific permissions to configuring leave types and accruals.

That said, I really like that Humanforce lets you customize public holidays for different locations, which is great news for multinational or multicultural teams. Employees then see the public holidays in their schedules.

Verdict: 8.5/10

Team communication

Humanforce’s real-time chat seems user-friendly and modern—no voice notes or emoji reactions, though. (Photo/Video ©Humanforce)

The vendor released a 1-to-1 and group chat feature relatively recently on both the Humanforce Work mobile app and the web app. From some screenshots and help articles, I gather that it has a modern interface including speech bubbles, “read” receipts, plus GIFS, emojis, and attachments you can add to messages.

Importantly, you can create chat sub-groups (for instance, project- or department-based private groups) and search for coworkers to send direct messages to. But you don’t seem to be able to record voice notes, add message reactions, or share locations—like you can on Connecteam.

Separately, you can post team-wide announcements on the notice board. Filter your audience by location and department and, optionally, attach files to your message. For time-sensitive comms, you can also send mass push notifications to users’ smartphones.

To be honest, this tool feels redundant. I wish the platform simply let you mark certain chat messages or announcements with a “send push notification.”

Verdict: 8/10

HR and payroll

I like that you can track employee qualifications, compensation, and goals in the HR module. (Photo/Video ©Humanforce)

Humanforce can bundle an HRMS suite with your workforce management features. This can save you some time and admin versus integrating with a third-party HRMS.

The HR offering is quite extensive—here’s what to expect:

  • Qualification tracking: Customize qualification types and set individual expiration alerts.
  • Compensation planning: Set department-level rules, customize individual compensation, and get an audit trail.
  • Employee engagement: Send and analyze employee surveys, get 360-degree feedback, and automate quick regular check-ins.
  • Performance management: Set team and individual goals, enable peer reviews, track potential versus performance, and analyze skill needs.

Built-in payroll also makes Humanforce quite attractive. You can run manual, scheduled, and auto-payroll using the data already on your system, including compensation rates and approved timesheets. It has some neat tools, including retrospective, advance, and out-of-cycle pay.

As a downside, the HR suite seems to lack a training platform and company knowledge base (like what Connecteam has), which would help maintain skills and qualifications and reduce onsite errors.

Verdict: 7/10

Humanforce Security Features

Desktop screenshot of the Humanforce trust center listing its security certifications and controls. (Photo/Video ©Humanforce)

Humanforce breaks down its privacy and security measures in its trust center. Firstly, it’s ISO 27001:2022, SOC 2 Type II, and GDPR compliant. It lists multiple policies—including access control, data management, and incident response policies—which you can request access to by completing a short form.

It’s not HIPAA compliant in the US, though.

Its security methods include penetration testing, network firewalls, and vulnerability monitoring. It also encrypts data at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS).

Finally, you can enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for more secure logins and customize user access and permissions. For example, you can allow managers to add team members and edit timesheets but prevent them from viewing non-subordinate pay info and editing leave types.

This is one of the most transparent and comprehensive security outlines I’ve seen among HR software providers. Bravo!

Verdict: 9/10

Humanforce Reporting & Analytics

Humanforce doesn’t detail the breadth or depth of its reporting capability, but I did get a broad picture by reviewing its analytics-related web pages, help articles, and videos.

First, its HR and workforce management modules have different analytics suites. Humanforce’s workforce analytics include reports on labor costs, rostering, timesheets, payroll, and qualifications. I like that you can customize multiple analytics dashboards and visualize and export charts and graphs. Data filters include locations, departments, and roles.

Step-by-step workforce analytics guides suggest Humanforce reporting has a steep learning curve. While it offers advanced custom reporting tools (which remind me of building charts and pivot tables in Excel), non-techy admins may struggle to use the clunky report builder.

Apart from standalone reporting, you get actionable insights across modules, such as labor cost estimates in your rostering. Worryingly, Humanforce doesn’t specify if it offers ready-to-use sample reports or dashboards.

If you go with Humanforce’s HR suite, you also get a wide array of customizable people analytics, including headcount, performance issues, and employee sentiment analysis.

Verdict: 7/10

Humanforce Customer Support

Desktop screenshot of the Humanforce help center showing workforce management help articles. (Photo/Video ©Humanforce)
Desktop screenshot of the Humanforce help center showing workforce management help articles. (Photo/Video ©Humanforce)

Here’s the technical support (email and phone) that Humanforce offers per pricing tier:

  • Standard: 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. (GMT); response times between 30 minutes (urgent) and 5 days (low priority)
  • Enterprise: 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. (GMT); response times between 15 minutes (urgent) and 2 days (low priority); dedicated support engineer

There’s no live chat support.

I sense that Humanforce customer support is “not up to mark,” as one user put it. Various verified user reviews deplore the customer service, even while praising functionalities like rostering and payroll. For example, I read that “tickets can be left open for months on end” and that agents sometimes “close the ticket without actually trying to help.”

I’m not too shocked by these reviews. When I reached out for a demo, I got a quick and friendly invitation to set up a short intro call. During this call, we agreed to book a demo, which the rep canceled 2 days later, never replying to my email follow-up.

Humanforce App Review

I like that Humanforce offers an end-to-end employee management and HR solution. While it seems difficult to get a live demo and quote, publicly available materials suggest it has a clean, modern interface with plenty of customization options. Growing teams would benefit from auto-scheduling, leave rules, and custom analytics.

Small teams, look elsewhere—you can’t use Humanforce with under 150 employees (or 50, depending on who you ask). If you fit the bill, prepare for a steep learning curve and minimal customer support.

Connecteam: The Better Humanforce Alternative

Connecteam is an all-in-one workforce management app where you can schedule, train, and communicate with your employees. It’s extremely intuitive and mobile-friendly—while covering features Humanforce doesn’t offer.

The employee scheduler lets you build and recur shifts in just a few clicks. With 1 click, the app auto-fills your schedule based on employee availability and qualifications. I love that you can add tasks, files, checklists, and forms to your shifts, which Humanforce doesn’t allow. Employees can swap and request shifts in just a few taps—plus request time off and update availability.

Humanforce doesn’t include custom forms or tasks. On Connecteam, I found it easy to create forms from templates or from scratch. There are many answer types (including multiple choice, location, and signature). The task tracker is intuitive but powerful, letting you measure progress across shifts and projects.

Also, I tested Connecteam’s employee time clock, and it’s a 1-click affair (on mobile, kiosk, and web). You can customize late clock-in limits and overtime tracking rules, set geofence areas where employees can punch in and out, and track and automate breaks. Unlike on Humanforce, you can use a real-time GPS tracker with breadcrumbs to view workers’ A-to-B journeys during clocked hours.

Finally, I love Connecteam’s online team chat. Its modern interface lets you create private or public groups and message any team member privately. I like that you can reply to specific messages, add reactions, and send voice notes (which you can’t do on Humanforce). Separately, you can share team announcements in a public feed.

Connecteam also packs in:

  • Recognition and rewards
  • Employee timelines
  • Training and onboarding
  • A company knowledge base
  • Labor compliance tracking and alerts
  • An internal help desk

Connecteam is 100% free for up to 10 users, with premium plans starting at just $29/month for up to 30 users (+$0.5/month per additional user).
