Connecteam has 3 hubs: Operations, Communications, and HR & Skills. Pricing is the same for each hub, but they must be purchased separately.

Overall, Connecteam is much more affordable for most businesses. The free plan is a game-changer for small businesses since it includes full access to all of Connecteam’s features across all hubs. Pricing for paid plans includes up to 30 employees, and the per-employee cost for additional employees is very cost-effective compared with Monday.com.

As an example, a business with 30 employees will pay just $99 per month for Connecteam’s Expert plan, but $570 per month for Monday.com’s Pro plan.

Side-by-Side Feature Overview

Connecteam and Monday.com take somewhat different approaches to managing work. That said, they have some tools in common for project and task management, employee scheduling, time clocking, and team communication. Here’s how their key features stack up.

Project and task management – Winner: Tie

Connecteam and Monday.com excel at project and task management but approach projects in somewhat different ways.

Connecteam works as a task management app designed for deskless teams and field-based employees. You can create and assign tasks with just a few taps and add subtasks, forms and checklists, images, and attachments so that employees know exactly what they should be doing.

Employees can easily see all their assigned tasks and mark them as “in progress” or “done.” You get a dashboard showing all your team’s tasks and their statuses, and you can send push notification reminders or request updates with a tap.

I love this approach because it’s simple and intuitive, and it integrates really well with the rest of Connecteam’s features. For example, you can create team chats around any task or have employees select what task they’re working on when they clock in. Connecteam also supports recurring tasks, which are perfect for ensuring your team stays on top of regular work like cleaning or equipment maintenance.

Monday.com’s approach to task management is more complex and better suited to office workers. You can create custom boards for each project your team is working on, then add tasks to those boards. You can divide tasks into sub-tasks, divide projects into phases, assign 1 or more employees to each task, and color-code tasks according to priority.

Monday.com is very visual and enables you to view tasks in various ways, including in tables, Gantt charts, and Kanban boards. You can combine multiple boards into a single dashboard, giving you a holistic view of your team’s ongoing work.

I found Monday.com works better for long-term, multi-part projects than Connecteam. For example, Kanban boards allow you to move tasks along a pipeline with multiple stages. You can achieve something similar with Connecteam’s sub-tasks, but it’s not quite as seamless for this type of complex work.

Mobile app – Winner: Connecteam

Connecteam and Monday.com offer mobile apps for iOS and Android

I was really impressed by the Connecteam mobile app. There’s almost nothing you need a computer to do, at least for day-to-day work management. Managers can use the app to build schedules, monitor task statuses, review forms and checklists that employees submit, and approve timesheets. Employees can use the app to check their schedules, clock in/out of work, communicate with coworkers, and even take training courses.

Overall, the Connecteam app felt seamless. I got the impression the whole platform was designed around a smartphone screen.

The Monday.com mobile app offers access to most of the software’s features, but when I tested the system, I often felt like I was using a desktop platform that had been squished into a smartphone display. Viewing boards on the Monday.com app required a lot of pinching and sliding since you can’t display all the information on a small screen. The text was pretty small, and tapping on items within a board felt tricky, which I found made starting and stopping time tracking problematic.

Also, the Monday.com app doesn’t have all the platform’s key features. For example, managers can’t display Monday.com’s workload view, which is really important for figuring out which of your employees have more capacity when you’re assigning new work.

Time clocking – Winner: Connecteam

Connecteam offers a mobile-friendly time tracker that lets employees clock in and out with a tap. It offers a wide range of features: It can distinguish between billable and non-billable hours, send automatic alerts to managers when an employee is about to go into overtime, and remind employees to take required breaks.

connecteam map view

Additionally, Connecteam’s employee time clock is GPS-enabled, so you can set geofences around job sites. I love this feature for field service businesses because you can allow employees to clock in only after they arrive at a job. Then Connecteam will automatically clock them out when they leave the job area. It results in much more accurate time tracking and significantly cuts down on time theft.

Connecteam automatically generates timesheets for each employee, which both employees and managers can review. You’ll get warnings about duplicate entries, missed breaks, and excessive overtime to help you avoid compliance issues. Connecteam integrates with QuickBooks, Gusto, Paychex, Xero, and ADP, so you can run payroll with a few clicks.

Employees, meanwhile, can view their timesheets in the Connecteam app. They know exactly how much they can expect to be paid and where their pay is going.

When I tested Monday.com, the only way to track time was to add a time clock column to an existing board. Employees can clock in when they start a task and clock out when they stop, but there are no alerts and no features for preventing time theft. In addition, Monday.com won’t automatically collate time data into timesheets, so it takes a bit of work to use this data to monitor overtime or run payroll. Monday.com also doesn’t offer a way to distinguish between billable and non-billable hours, so its time tracking isn’t all that helpful for invoicing clients, either.

Ultimately, I was pretty disappointed with Monday.com’s time tracker

Employee scheduling – Winner: Connecteam

Connecteam also beats Monday.com when it comes to scheduling employees to work.

Connecteam’s employee scheduler is built around shift work. You can use templates to quickly build a schedule, then drag and drop employees onto the schedule to assign them to shifts. Shifts can be customized to allow only specific employees or employees with certain qualifications to be scheduled, which I found helpful for ensuring you have the right person for every job. Connecteam also helps you save money by automatically flagging overtime and giving you visibility into each employee’s labor rates.

Image of from both desktop and mobile views

If you want to schedule even faster, Connecteam also offers an auto-scheduler that accounts for employees’ qualifications, scheduling preferences, and time off. It’s also easy to set up recurring schedules or duplicate a previous schedule and modify it. Employees can swap shifts or pick up open shifts with or without manager approval, giving them more control over their schedules.

While scheduling in Connecteam is shift-based, you can attach tasks and descriptions to shifts. Shifts also support attachments like forms, checklists, and images.

Monday.com gives you the ability to assign tasks to specific time periods, but I found it to be cumbersome. Each task must be scheduled manually, and there are no automatic checks to prevent double-scheduling or assigning work unevenly among employees. I also found the scheduling feature doesn’t work well if you need to assign employees to shifts, since each shift must first be entered as a task—which can make your boards pretty confusing.

Automations – Winner: Monday.com

Connecteam’s automations are primarily pre-programmed into the software. You can auto-schedule employees to shifts, send automatic reminders to employees when they’re scheduled to work, and automatically clock employees in when their shift starts or out when they leave a geofenced area.

Connecteam will also automatically alert managers if an employee is about to go into unapproved overtime, remind employees about upcoming task due dates, and alert HR managers about expiring certifications or HR documents.

With Monday.com’s custom automations, you get to decide which automations are most relevant for your business. For example, you can create automations to start a time clock when an employee begins working in another app or to create a task when a message is sent to a specific Slack channel. I found the automations to be most effective for orchestrating between Monday.com and integrated platforms, but you can also use them for Monday.com-specific actions, like assigning new tasks to the employee with the smallest workload.

I found that these automations are easy to set up. You can write out the automation you want in plain English, no coding required. Monday.com recently added AI to its platform, making it easier to create and refine more complex automations with prompts.

Team communication – Winner: Connecteam

Connecteam has a built-in employee chat app, while Monday.com offers much more limited tools for communicating about work.

Connecteam functions as a team chat app that lets you send 1:1 and group messages, organize your conversations into channels, and easily search your entire chat history. It supports photos, videos, and attachments. Employees can set their available hours so that they receive messages only when they’re working. In addition, managers can moderate group conversations to ensure that channels stay on-topic.

Connecteam also offers a social media-style update feed that’s great for sharing announcements with a specific team or your whole company. You can control who can post, enable or disable likes and comments, and even activate push notifications for urgent alerts. I really like this feed as a way to share big news and keep employees on the same page.

Monday.com, on the other hand, limits communication to chat threads on tasks. Users can comment on a task and tag coworkers. This keeps the history of messages about a task with other task details, but it leaves much to be desired since there are no private messages and the message history isn’t searchable.

When I tested the platform, I found it to be much more effective to use Monday.com’s automations to create a channel in Slack or another integrated communication platform every time I create a new project.

Integrations – Winner: Monday.com

Connecteam offers a limited number of native integrations. Most are for payroll software, including Quickbooks, Gusto, Paychex, Xero, and ADP. The other key integration is for Zapier, which lets you connect Connecteam to thousands of popular platforms. Having access to Zapier is really helpful, although it involves a few extra steps compared with using native integrations.

Monday.com has native integrations for more than 200 platforms, including communication and collaboration tools, marketing tools, CRM software, time clocks, and accounting software. All my favorite productivity platforms can be integrated, and the integration library is really well-organized. I also found it really easy to set up these integrations when I tested Monday.com.

Notably, both Connecteam and Monday.com offer APIs, so you can create custom integrations as needed.

User Ratings

Connecteam and Monday.com have both gotten positive reviews from users. Monday.com has a greater number of reviews and holds a slight edge on G2.

Security & Compliance

Connecteam and Monday.com both implement strong security features to protect sensitive employee and company data.

Both platforms have achieved SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications, the highest level of security certification available for business software. I’m also glad to see that they both comply with strict privacy requirements, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Both Connecteam and Monday.com support single sign-on (SSO), although this is available only on enterprise plans. Monday.com also provides a full audit log for enterprise users.

One thing I especially like about Connecteam is that it has features to protect sensitive company data. For example, you can limit employees’ ability to export messages from the chat to their devices and tightly control what data employees have access to.

Setup and Onboarding

Connecteam is incredibly fast and easy to set up. You can add employees in seconds and automatically send them an invite to download the Connecteam app. One user called it “super easy to learn,” and I’d agree. Templates make it easy to start scheduling and creating forms right away, and Connecteam’s support is really responsive if you run into any questions.

I was also impressed at how easy it was to start using Monday.com. The interface initially looked complicated, but once I dove in, I found that creating boards felt really intuitive. Echoing my experience, one reviewer commented that “the ease and user-friendliness of this product is next level.”

One drawback? Monday.com’s mobile experience isn’t amazing. It’s a very capable app, but it’s difficult to see boards on a small screen. Employees are likely to try using the platform on mobile first when you send them an invite, so be ready to address some confusion as they’re getting started.

Support and Customer Service

Here’s what you can expect from Connecteam and Monday.coms’ customer service teams:

Support TypeConnecteamMonday.com

Live Chat Support
Email Support
Help Center

Connecteam and Monday.com offer 24/7 customer support. You can get in touch by chat or email at both companies, and Monday.com also offers phone support. This is nice, but I’ve found that live chat is often more effective for solving issues since you can send screenshots and keep a copy of your message history.

I found the support teams at both companies to be highly responsive, and user reviews reflect this. One customer thanked Connecteam’s customer service team for “always rescuing us when we have a hiccup,” and another described Monday.com’s support team as “quick.”

It’s also worth noting that Connecteam offers a paid support option, Connecteam Pros, that can be really nice for small businesses that don’t have an internal IT team. You can hire a specialist to set up Connecteam features for you or get onboarding support to teach your employees about how they can use Connecteam most effectively.
